Root Canal

I finally had my appointment with the endodontist today.  I went in right before my surgery because I was having a really bad toothache.  The dentist wanted me to go have a consultation with a specialist for a possible root canal.  Well after I got done with the surgery, it wasn't hurting as bad, so I put it off, but I finally got in to see him.

It took about two minutes for him to determine that a root canal is in order.  So now I have that to look forward to.  I'll be getting it done on Friday.  I suppose it's better to take care of it now, because I wouldn't want to spend my vacation with a toothache.  But I still don't like it.

More Not So Good News

Well when it rains it pours I guess.  IN addition to having to have surgery to fix a hernia, I have a tooth that is bothering me.  This is the same tooth that my dentist put a porcelain crown on in December.  It had been bothering me since about the end of February, and in the last week, it finally got bad enough where I had to call the dentist.  I went in and lucky me...  he says I am going to need a root canal.  Unfortunately, I will be having surgery in a day, so a root canal will have to wait.  Looks like I will be recovering from surgery and having to deal with a tooth that feels like someone is jabbing I stick into my sinus cavity.  The next couple of weeks will not be pleasant, I can tell already.

Fixing a Tooth

I went to have a tooth semi-fixed today. For about the last 6 or 8 months it had been bothering me, but there was nothing showing up in the x-rays and the dentist didn't see a cavity. The last time I was there he sort of ground it down just a bit as there was a high spot and he thought that may be what was causing the trouble. Well it was still bugging me so I went back a couple of weeks ago. I saw the other dentist in the partnership (actually the one I prefer) and he too said he didn't see anything but he scheduled me to have a temporary crown put on. He was thinking that I may have a small crack in the tooth and that was the cause of the pain I was having.

It seems to have done the trick (the temporary crown) because the sensitivity to hot & cold etc. is gone. There is still some discomfort, but I think that may be from the shots I got to numb things. I think that it'll take some time to fully evaluate it, but if this works it'll eliminate the need for a root canal, which is a good thing. The next step will be going back, hopefully in about a month, to have a permanent crown put on.
