Stop Sign

Last week our wonderful community decided to remove the stop sign off of the main street running past ours.  it's about four blocks down from our street and has been there as long as I have been living in the Falls.  It was there Thursday morning when I left for work, and then when I was driving home, it wasn't.  In fact, as I was slowing down anticipating the stop, I saw a flatbed tow truck that was loading a small car that was all smashed up.  Apparently that was not the first accident there that day.  And on Saturday when I was out prepping the driveway to be sealed again by filling cracks, I heard tires screech and horns blow twice.  I think there are going to be a few more fender benders there in the coming weeks, hopefully, they won't involve my car.

Junior Indians Cheer

Ali got her "official" Jr. Indian picture on Thursday.  Which is a good thing because she just had it taken about a week ago.  Sarah just had hers taken this week so I'll have hers ready to post shortly.

First Illness in 2012-2013

Well two days into the school year and we have our first sickness of the school year.  Sarah came home from school last Thursday complaining she didn't feel well.  In fact she had a fever.  But she also had a football game to cheer for, so she took some Tylenol and went to the game.  Friday she went to school without telling me that she wasn't feeling well again, so by the time she got home Friday night she was in rough shape.

Sarah spent all weekend under a blanket either on the couch or in bed going from feeling ok, to feeling bad and having a fever.  By Sunday night she was supposedly feeling better, but Monday when it was time to get ready for school, she had a 101° temperature again, so she stayed home.  I decided to call the doctor to make sure she didn't have strep, or some other sort of infection, and luckily he said it was just a virus (and not the West Nile kind), and as soon as she was fever free she could go back to school (which just happened to be today).

And it was a good thing that she did feel better today because today was cheer pictures for the year, and if she wasn't feeling better, she wouldn't have been in the pictures.  The bad part is that now both Kris and I are feeling a little bit ill.  I am taking a ton of vitamin C to hopefully stave this off, because neither Kris, nor I can afford to get sick.

First Day 2012

Yesterday was the first day of the 2012 school year, and as has been tradition, I took the day off so I could see the girls off.  This is Sarah's first year of high school and her bus comes around 7:30 AM.  She also has to walk two blocks to catch it, so we wanted her to leave at 7:15 so she was there in plenty of time in case the bus came early.  However, as always, she was running late, so the annual photo on the front step was rushed.

This year, since it is her first year in HS, I decided to post a side by side comparison of the first day of Kindergarten 10 years ago and the first day today.  Here they are.

And also, as always, the girls had their photos taken together.

They are so excited to get back to school on the first day.  That feeling usually lasts a day or so.  Longer for Alison.  Sarah already had her language teacher tell her that her summer project was not up to par so she has to redo it.  The only good thing is that it appears that all the other kids in her class were equally inept.  This was for advanced language, or English, or whatever they are calling that class now.  She was complaining when she got home today as well that her teacher's are tough.  Gee, no kidding.  I tried to tell Sarah that as she gets older the classes get more difficult, and the expectations also increase, especially since she is taking four honors level courses this semester.  So we'll see how things go.  Hopefully, she'll be able to handle things.

Campaign Season

You know it is campaign season when we start the phone starts ringing with robo-calls and surveys.  I think I must have gotten about 10 in just the past week alone.  I always tell the surveys who I plan on voting for, but then I make sure to skew all the poll demographics.  And just think, only two months to go.  I can't wait until this election cycle is over.
