Another Phone Upgrade

It was finally time to go and upgrade another phone.  Ali's iphone4 was over two years old, and there were certain buttons that were no longer working, so I talked it over with Kris and we decided to go and get her a new iphone6.  One of the main reasons is that she is going on her Washington DC trip in four days, and she'll really need to have a good phone/camera.  Of course she wanted the rose gold color, which they didn't have.  Although the sales person at Best Buy told us that the rose gold colored phones are a special, limited run, or something like that.  So it sounds like there really wasn't any way she would have gotten one.

So now I am the only one with an "old phone".  However, unlike the ladies in the house, I only use it for reading email, texting, and talking.  I don't use mine for music, steaming or otherwise, or surfing the world wide interwebs.  So I suppose it suits my needs for now.  Maybe in the Spring I'll splurge for a new phone.  Also, I think I may need to look at changing plans, because when I get a new phone, we'll be paying an extra $100/month just in phone fees, which really pretty much sucks.

Trying to Get Caught Up

Please be patient if you are a regular to the Hahnted House.  In addition to being a sort of a family newsletter, I also use this blog as a kind of a diary, so that in a few years I can look back and see what was happening in our lives at any particular moment.  Face it, your memory fades the older you get.  Anyway, I was absent over the summer with posting things that were happening, mainly because we were busy with things.  But that doesn't mean I didn't have things to write.  Currently, I have 30 entries listed as drafts that I either started and didn't finish, or made some notes to remind myself to enter something.  Unfortunately, my time to sit down and type has been limited due to children commandeering my computer for homework, or some other project, and by the time I get to sit down at it, I am just too tired to think.  So now that things are getting a little calmer, I am going to try and go back and finish the 30 entries I started (if I can remember things that is) in addition to getting some new things entered.

Accepted!

When I got home from work today Sarah came out to meet me and said "guess what?"  My first thought was that yes, I know about Alison.  Then my second thought was "you brought your calculus grade up".  But before I could say anything she says that she got an acceptance letter from UW-Lacrosse.  So that is very good news.  But even though UWL is Sarah's first choice, I told her she still needs to get her other applications sent out.  I want to make sure that she has all her bases covered, and who knows, she may change her mind.  So at least that way she still has options.  But at least we know that she has one college that she can go to next fall.

Infested

I was sitting at my desk this afternoon when my phone buzzes.  Kris was sending me a message that said the school called and Alison has lice.  I was like, what the hell???!!!  Alison had actually told us over the weekend that there was an outbreak of lice at school.  I thought she had enough sense to know who to stay away from since she said she knew that there were kids that were infested.  But I guess not.

So now we ended up having to go and buy the special shampoo, the combs, all the other anti-lice BS on top of having to completely scrub the house down.  Everything is either being washed on hot, or thrown in the freezer.  Kris had to leave work early to get Ali, and has been hard at work trying to get things sanitized ever since.  So five hours later I think she can finally relax, though it starts up again first thing in the morning.

They (the school) told Kris that Ali can go back to school tomorrow if they don't find anything.  So she'll have to go see the school nurse prior to school starting.  And before that, we have to check her head as well. With any luck she'll be cleared.

Rolled an Ankle

We found out last night that Alison didn't do any tumbling at tumbling practice. Why? Well it's because she rolled an ankle during warm ups. When she got home she wasn't able to put any weight on it, but it wasn't really bruised at all. I thought she might be babying it a little but gave her the benefit of the doubt. So in the morning when she got up she couldn't put ANY weight on it. After discussing it, we thought that there may be a hairline fracture or something that was causing the pain and there would be no way of use knowing it. So to be on the safe side we decided that we should get it x-rayed. Kris took her to the doctor, and after examining her and ordering an x-ray she said that it was just a soft tissue injury/sprain.  So Ali got a walking boot that she'll have to wear for the next week to keep it relatively immobile.  That means no cheerleading, or tumbling for the next week either.  Now the hard part is going to be making sure that Alison follows directions and stays off it.

As a side note, the doctor who checked Alison out was the same one who blew the diagnosis of her broken collar bone when she was four.  Unfortunately she was the doctor on call and that is who we were stuck with.  Kris has a story about her checking out Ali, but since I wasn't there I am not going to try and describe it second-hand.  If you want to hear about it, ask her.
