More Family Tree Stuff

I have once again started up my hobby, researching my family tree. I have already emailed a couple of distant cousins. One lives in Hawaii and was related to my grandmother who was from Canada. I am slowly completing things based off of information found on ancestry.com and it is coming along slowly. Right now in my Family Tree Maker I have a little over 400 people entered. The tree I am making on ancestry.com has 130 or so. It gets hard when you are trying to input info such as birth dates and death dates because I forget which date goes with what person. I think what I need to do is start some files with all the information so I can organize it. What I did find however is that there is a relation who was married to the daughter of McDonalds founder Ray Kroc. I found the obituary for her on ancestry.com with all the names and dates needed. So that is sort of cool.

Behind

I have gotten very far behind with updating the happenings of the Hahn household, and I apologize. My time has been very limited lately so I will try and do a little better in February.

Packer Week

Well, it is the start of Super Bowl week and Shady Lane has declared it Packer week. Every day this week is a different Packer themed day for Alison (packer clothing, green and gold day, etc.) so we had to go out and get Alis some Packer garb. First we went to Kohls, but their selection wasn't great. We decided to drive down to West Allis and visit the Green and Gold zone. They had quite a variety of stuff, shirts, hats, novelty things such as glasses, can holders, and helmet lights. We ended up getting some socks, a couple of hair bows/ribbons, a pair of ear rings, a necklace, and something else, which I cannot recall at this time. But as we got up to the checkout, the guy behind the counter starts making small talk, trying to get the girls to laugh/smile. So he turns around and grabs a "cheese bracelet" and gives it to her. It was a rubber one, like the Lance Armstrong Livestrong ones, yellow, with cheese wedges imprinted in it. She thought it was so cool and has been wearing it ever since. Sarah was "too cool" for it, but the guy slipped one in the bag for her too. I think she'll end up wearing it eventually.

Taking a Digger

Saturday morning we were supposed to have some snow. Well it was hovering around freezing and it didn't materialize, but what we did get was a thin layer of ice over everything. I went to work early for a couple of hours and slipped on the back porch. I caught myself, but Kris didn't when she left for work. She slipped and totally biffed it. What does this mean? well it means that on top of everything else, I really need to replace the porches. That is all.

Mid-Terms

Sarah got her mid term grades last week. Well not exactly, but we f the school's website. She got all A's again. I just wanted to brag and let her know how proud Kris and I are of her. The honors breakfast will be later on in February so I'll have to take a couple of pictures of her at it again. Way to go Sarah!

Strep Throat

Saturday night Alison was feeling under the weather. Then all day Sunday she was running a fever. She stayed home from school again on Tuesday with a 102 fever and when Kris got home she took Alison to the doctor. He did a rapid test for strep throat and you guessed it, it came back positive. She got a prescription for some antibiotic (I forget which one at the moment, but I think it is amoxicillin) but on top of that he thought she had a virus on top of it. Her head is very congested so I don't doubt it. I know she was bummed out with missing school and was even more worried going back that she might get someone else sick. The good thing is that at least it didn't escalate into pneumonia this time.

State Jam

Saturday afternoon was spent at a cheerleading competition. Sarah had her "State Jam" competition. I got lost for a bit trying to find the school. I misinterpreted the directions we had and turned to follow the highway signs when I should have gone straight on the city street.

Once we got there, the parking was unreal. I dropped Kris and Ali off and then went to park, and in teh time it took me to drop them off, someone stole my parking spot that I was eying up. I ended up drivign around for 10 minutes looking for a place to park.

When I finally found my parking place, I got inside and met Kris and Ali and we grabbed some lunch, and waited for the competition to begin. We got lucky and met some friends while we were eating so we had some people to sit with. Sarah's team was the last one in their grouping to go. I thought they were much better than the last competition we saw in Oak Creek (I will post the video shortly. I need to take it off the camera and upload it to Vimeo). I was expecting a pretty good showing when the final placement was announced, but they didn't score in the top five, which was sort of disappointing. When we got home Sarah told us that they finished 8th out of ten teams. I thought that was pretty crummy, and so did Sarah and her team and coach.

They have one more competition coming up in a couple of weeks so hopefully they can improve on it a little bit.

Lesson Learned

Alison learned a valuable lesson Tuesday night. Unfortunately for her, it was a hard lesson. She came home from school and was stomping around the house, yelling at Kris, and arguing with Sarah, just generally being a terror. The result is that she had to stay home from dance class. She thought we were just kidding. She got herself cleaned up, put on her dance clothes, and Kris and I asked her where she thought she was going. For the next two hours she whined and cried and whimpered around the house. Then I told her that she could have her choice of not going to dance or not going to her friend's birthday party this weekend. When faced with that, she chose dance.

Hopefully she has learned what happens when she acts all crabby and disrespectful to her parents. She was expecting us to cave, but I think she has learned something. We'll see what happens next time around if we have another incident.

Another Trip to the Hospital

Kris called me at work yesterday to let me know that her mom is in the hospital again. She was having heart problems so she ended up calling her my brother in law to take her in. they admitted her with a heart arrhythmia and have been running all kinds of tests for the last couple of days. More test to come tomorrow but there has apparently been talk of a pacemaker.

Kris will find out more tomorrow, but either way it can't be good.

Less One Child

Sarah had another scout overnight last night in Kenosha so Alison was home alone. I was planning on taking her to a movie, but she said she really didn't want to go to a movie. After dropping off Sarah we drove to the library to get a bunch of books that she wanted. We got home from teh library about 15 minutes before Kris got home from work. Since Kris hadn't eaten lunch , so we settled on taking her to lunch at Su Casa. Of course when we get there and she orders chicken fingers. Kris and I tried to convince her that she should order some kind of Mexican food since it was a Mexican restaurant, but she didn't want any of that.

Once we got home I spent the evening having stories read to me and playing games. It was nice to be able to spend some time with just Ali. I think sometimes with Sarah around she feels like she gets overlooked. The one bad thing was that when it got to be bedtime, she was freaking out because we had read a scary story book during the afternoon. It had her pretty spooked. I ended up laying with her for a time to calm her down. The funny thing was that I asked her about it before we read it and she said it was fine. I guess that means no more scary stories for a while.

Follow Up

Kris had her follow up on her vein surgery on Tuesday. I will forgo posting any photos as I don't want to gross anyone out (plus I didn't take any) but she had some pretty nasty bruising. When she told the nurses there how much her leg bled and when they saw the degree of bruising she had they couldn't believe that we didn't call them. The pain was still pretty bad on Tuesday, but it is slowly getting better. The doctor tole her she can stop wearing the compression stocking at night if she wants to, but so far Kris has kept it on.

In three weeks she can completely stop wearing the stocking altogether. Updates will be posted as the become available.

Happy New Year

We welcomed in 2011 in much the same way we have the last couple of years, at home with the girls (sorry no photos this year). Kris wasn't working this year so she actually stayed awake. And Sarah had a friend sleep over too, so it was a little crazy here.

At a minute before 11:00 we called down to the girls to turn on the TV (they were watching a DVD) if they wanted to see the ball drop in Times Square. Of course they couldn't find it and completely missed it. Alison was most upset. But ran it back on the DVR for her to watch. Then we waited around and watched the coverage on the various stations, running the tape delayed stuff again until midnight here.

At the risk of sounding old... What the hell was that garbage on the Dick Clark show? Music really has just hit the dumpster hasn't it? Kris and I watched Fox News with Rick Springfield, and the Gin Blossoms performing. Although I believe at least Train was on Dick Clark, which was a good diversion from the garbage they were playing.

At just past midnight, Kris and Ali went to bed and Sarah and her friend went downstairs to watch more movies (and I assume send their friends emails or text messages). I went to bed around 1:00 and they were still awake, so today should be very enjoyable.

Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
