Summer Job

Sarah accepted a new summer job. At least I think she has a new summer job. She interviewed at Bath and Body, and the woman she spoke to offered her the position, but she also has to go back and speak to the head manager (I think). She has to speak to someone else before she can officially be offered the job, but it sounds as if it is pretty much a done deal. Supposedly they will give her better hours, and more money than she was earning at Stein’s even after being there for four years. I hope this works out for her, because I know how much she hated working at Stein’s and dealing with some of the people that would come in there. Not to mention coming home smelling like nitrogen/fertilizer and getting a farmer tan working outside. I know that her bosses at Stein’s loved having her work there so it is too bad she couldn’t stay, but she is thinking of the big picture, earning enough for her expenses at college so she doesn’t need to find a part time job there while going to school. I hope things work out.

Job Offer

I found out from Kris today that the manager of the Brew Pub has offered Sarah a job for the summer. She is unsure if she should take it or not, but is leaning toward turning him down. Kris seems to think that all the guy wanted was a cute, skinny college girl to draw in some younger guys to hang out there. Sarah doesn’t even know what the hours would be, or what the position pays. There is a lot that I think she needs to find out first. Plus, I think she is hoping (planning) on getting the position at Bath and Body. But she is also worrying that she won’t get it, and if that happens, she won’t have this job to fall back on. We told her that we think she should turn it down. If she is fairly certain she’ll be offered the Bath & Body job, then she won’t have time for a waitressing job, and if she doesn’t get it, well, we’ll help her figure things out.

Another Shadow

Beginning this year, Alison has been in the “Healthcare Career Academy”. This is essentially a grouping of classes and electives that focus in the healthcare field, which is the direction she thinks she wants to go in when she gets to college. The unfortunate thing is that you need to decide you want to be in these academies right after freshman year. Sarah didn’t do that and by the time she realized she wanted to do something in the healthcare field, it was too late. So now Alison is pretty much taking some classes that are identical to what Sarah is taking in college, specifically, “Careers in Healthcare”. Part of this class is setting up a job shadow, which Sarah just did. Now Alison has to do the same thing. Unfortunately, the hospitals require kids who do job shadows to be at least 16 years old, and Ali is only 15. So she is having a little bit of trouble tracking something down. We thought she could shadow our dentist, since Kris has been going to him since before she was Alison’s age, and I have been seeing him for the last 25 years. But she wants nothing to do with sticking her fingers in people’s mouths (apparently the tongue depressor thing doesn’t bother her though). It appears that she does have something lined up with a private, PT practice though. She still needs to nail down the specifics, but it looks like they’ll let her do it even though she is under 16. I can’t wait to hear how this will end up going.

Wrong Way Driver

Alison has a birthday party tomorrow and of course, that means I am out at 8:00 PM the night before to try and find a gift. We didn’t find anything at WalMart, or JC Penney in the Falls, so I thought we’d run to Dick’s in ‘Tosa. I didn’t have anything else to do and it is only a 10 minute drive to get there. Unfortunately they didn’t have what we wanted, which was thick, fuzzy socks. I guess Cabin socks are only a winter thing.

But that isn’t the interesting thing that happened. On the way home, we were driving along Hwy 41/45 and just past the Appleton Avenue exit I notice a set of headlights coming down the off ramp at Good Hope Road. I never thought I would have seen something like that. Obviously, someone got their Irish going early.
